Westgate C.P. School

Welcome toWestgate C.P.School

Our Values and Ethos

Our vision is that all children leave Westgate CP School as confident, resilient and reflective individuals. We set high expectations of all our children; providing opportunities and knowledge to develop their skills.

We create an environment where our children can achieve their full potential and will thrive.  Westgate pupils are valued and successful members of their local community and active and accountable global citizens.

To support everyone in achieving their full potential, we carefully support the skills needed for our learners to follow our 4 learning behaviours, and hope these will support them in their life beyond Westgate. Our learning behaviours are Pride, Courage, Resilience and Teamwork.

Alongside these, we encourage the children to follow our school rules at all times. These are:

We want our children to enjoy school and to make the most of everything offered to them. We inspire our children and provide them with the opportunities that will allow them to develop, stay motivated and feel empowered. We teach our children to have respect for themselves and others, to be kind and compassionate and to be risk takers, who are not afraid of a challenge and who know that mistakes can be learning opportunities.

  • All members of the school community work together to enable everybody to be the best they can be.
  • Each child is valued as an individual with unique personalities and talents to be developed and celebrated.
  • We constantly look to bring new experiences, fresh ideas and knowledge of different cultures in everything that we do.
  • Our school is a place where every child is safe and nurtured and where everyone is kind and respectful.
  • Our enriched and diverse curriculum is rooted in a love of the natural environment and an understanding of the wider world.
  • Our outstanding staff have high expectations of all pupils and actively work with them to ensure success for every child
  • We recognise that we are part of a multi-cultural Britain and our core values help and enable us to take an active role in shaping a better society for the future of all.

As a school, we want all of our pupils to be successful. To enable this, we will:

  • Be inclusive and provide effective and holistic support for vulnerable learners, those with additional needs and those facing personal challenge and change.
  • Work with specialist services to ensure the children have access to high quality support for their learning and well-being at all levels.
  • Consistently track the children’s progress, be proactive in identifying underachievement, and take steps to minimise this.
  • Inspire all children to want to be at school every day by delivering a curriculum that meets their needs and reflects their lives.
  • Highlight the importance of reading and inspire our children to have a love of reading.
  • Endeavour to equip our children with all the life skills they will need to become valuable and well-adjusted citizens who are tolerant and respectful of all by weaving Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development into all areas of school life.
  • Uphold the British Values of Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.
  • Provide opportunities for children to be able to make decisions that affect them and understand their rights.
  • Encourage all members of our community to contribute and support the children’s learning.
