In Reception we have two classes, each benefitting from experienced teaching and support staff. Our staff work closely together to create a curriculum that has both formal whole class learning opportunities as well as long uninterrupted periods of child initiated learning through play. We are lucky enough to have a large outdoor area purely for our Reception children as well as a 'forest area' we like to visit and learn in regularly.
We plan our curriculum to meet the needs of our cohort, learning through themes that the children are interested in or where there are gaps in learning. We teach phonics through FFT Success for all phonics and use Numberblocks, NCETM planning and Mastering Number to support maths teaching and learning. In Literacy we use elements of the whole school approach to writing, I am a clever writer as well as using Greg Boterill's Drawing club to inspire and excite our children to develop a love for writing.
We work closely with families to ensure that their child's first experiences of school are as positive and successful as possible. Transition to school is very important to us and we work closely with families and local pre-schools to ensure we are catering for each individual child's needs, to ensure they are ready and excited to start school.
We use Tapestry to communicate what our children are learning and achieving in school, celebrating wow moments.
